i am also having issues with new skyfire browser .. i can no longer watch HULU or YOUTUBE ... i get a message on my phone ( i have HTC TOUCH DIAMOND 1) message says browser is needs to be updated .. then i try to change or yp date browser to IE7 or FIREFOX or ect... i cant do it .. whats going on..??
i may go back to older version 1.0 until this issue is resolved ... i'll keep trying to find a solution...
if anyone has a solution .. please share ..
peace and bless all ..

the youtube issue involves the server side rendering engine, and from what I hear it's being worked on. Hulu has been blocking skyfire (and anything that isn't a PC browser) for a few months now. There really isn't anything that can be done for that because it's a legal issue involving media licenses and such

thanx for your response ... skyfire is still a great browser .. but i am sadly disappointed .. seems like every step forward skyfire takes , is a step or 2 backwards , due to other sites blocking and making sites incompatible with mobile devices ..
come on skyfire ... i'm a big fan ... lets beat the system !!!

like I said, the youtube issue is fixable. the Hulu issue is a stickier situation.
check out this blog link from back when it started

I use a service called PlayOn, by MediaMall (similar to Boxee). It was basically built on the fact that you can get stream videos from different sites to your XBOX 360, PS3 or other media capable devices, thus making it possible to watch it on your television. Since their biggest features are Netflix and Hulu, AND the fact that to use it past the trial period requires one to purchase a license, they are working on problems specifically related to changes Hulu makes all the time. It requires the company to work on it constantly, which they do because the users are paying customers, so something like this might be a little out of scope for Skyfire to handle, unless they plan to employ people to continuously work on the issue every time Hulu breaks it. I'm only speculating, I don't have any knowledge of the size or technical expertise any of these companies have.

The Hulu folks don't want us using Skyfire to watch it, so anything Skyfire did to try to work around, Hulu would probably break deliberately. Plus they might get a cease-and-desist for their troubles. Not worth taking on Comcast, Disney and News Corp. just so we can watch Family Guy and Lost.

Yes that was my original point, though when I reread my post it doesn't stand out clearly. Hulu does do this on purpose, so you would need a team to fix it every single time, very laborious. Easier for a company which focuses on Hulu, but not for SkyFire which focuses on the entire internet wink.gif

I understand pretty much the blocking of Hulu. But I don't get why it started working again recently, then stopped ? Sometime in the 2nd or 3rd week in march, I was suddenly able to use Skyfire to watch Hulu again. I had been giving it a try every week or two since last year. In March, (just around when Skyfire was having some maintenance downtime) I tried Hulu and I got "no server found" when entering 'www.hulu.com'. Then a day or 2 later, Hulu was playing OK again!!! I watched some episodes of "Dresden Files", "V-Visitors", and others for at least several days to around the end of March. Not sure when it stopped, but I've just been trying it and the msg "...don't like your platform..." seems to be back consistently. It sure was great while it lasted . . . ", but does anyone know what gives?

Skyfire presents itself to the servers as an ordinary desktop browser. So Hulu has to do some tricky guessing to determine that the request to watch a video is from Skyfire rather than from an ordinary desktop browser user.

My guess is that Skyfire upgraded something which threw off Hulu's ability to figure out which requests are from Skyfire users. Hulu then readjusted their guessing to shut Skyfire out again.

That sounds very much like what probably happened. I was so happy for a few days ! I understand now that Hulu does NOT want any use of their videos on mobile devices, which just puzzles the hell out of me, but here's hoping this can be worked out with them somehow.

Don't worry... Someday Hulu will recognize the value of streaming their service to mobile as well. I wonder if any Hulu exec has seen exactly how SF works. If they had, they (likely) wouldn't have an issue. I mean, in the past I would still see all the same content. SF works well for abc.com, fox.com, nbc.com, etc. so I really cannot see the issue.

I'm wondering if hulu is doing this so they can find some way to charge to use their site on mobile browsers. A perfect set up to start selling some kind of app that will allow us to watch it mobile. Think about it. If we can watch it for free with skyfire they won't make many sales if this is the case. Just a thought.

from what I've read, at the moment, Hulu doesn't have the appropriate media rights to stream to mobile devices (or pretty much anything other than a PC)
