All my favorites are saved as .url files. Whil I am slowly copying them over to Skyfire, I also would like a way to launch sites via file rather than a command. Obviously there are workarounds, but I want to know if there is a way to make skyfire open a url file, maybe something I'm overlooking? I've tried associating the url with the skyfire.exe application, but all it does is return a search results with the path of the url file.

In any case, Skyfire will not read a local file, so I don't think it can do what you are requesting. However, there was some discussion in these forums about getting Skyfire to start with a given URL; I don't recall if the users discussing this were able to achieve the result they were looking for.

Skyfire will definitely accept URLs as command line parameters, in this syntax:

\Program Files\Skyfire\Skyfire.exe http://en.wikipedia.org

Put this all on one line, and don't forget the space after ".exe"

All you need to do is modify the shortcut in the start menu, and voila, instant start page! smile.gif

I store all my bookmarks in an HTML page in my personal webspace, so that's where I send Skyfire on startup. Every so often I update the file locally and upload it via FTP. Instead of using Skyfire's Home button, I tap on the start menu shortcut, even when Skyfire is already running, and this brings me back to home sweet home! LOL

Excellent! Thanks Foliator.
You're welcome. It just occurred to me that some users may not know how to modify a shortcut. The easiest way is through the properties dialogue in Total Commander, and some other 3rd-party file managers. I simply use a plain-text editor, but the number at the beginning of the file must be modified, too, as it stands for the number of characters in the shortcut, minus the number itself and the number sign after it. For example, here's Notepad.lnk:

28#"\Program Files\Notepad.exe"

The file size will come out to 31 bytes, so you need to subtract 3 from that to arrive at 28#. The properties dialogue method is easier, but the standard file explorer may be all some users have, and it has no properties dialogue, at least in WM5, thanks to one of many MS shortcomings. wink.gif

Just joined these forums today, and glad I did a search. I was just about to start a new subject for a similar question!

I'm running WinMo 6.1 on a Verizon Ozone. I use CHome Configurator to modify my home screen. I have created a weather panel with links to local TV station radar, forecasts, NWS radar, etc, so I'm familiar with manipulating CHome pretty well. I'd love to be able to add a page to this panel with a Skyfire link for my local TV stations video web forecast.

Can anybody walk me through this, please? I need to create this shortcut, and then just point CHome to it, right? Do I create an IE shortcut, then just add \Program Files\Skyfire\Skyfire.exe to the URL?

Thanks!

Found it!
