If you’re experiencing audio issues, check these possible causes.
- The UDP port, required for audio, is blocked. UDP traffic can be blocked by ISPs, routers, firewalls or connections. Check your router/firewall settings and documentation to see if UDP traffic is blocked. You can also contact your ISP directly to see if they block UDP traffic. Skyfire requires nothing more than any other app that streams audio or video. You simply need to verify that UDP traffic is not blocked.
On a Windows Mobile phone, you will not get audio on Skyfire if your phone is connected to your computer via USB through ActiveSync. ActiveSync does not support UDP.
- Your phone is muted. Make sure your device is not muted and you have sound turned up loud enough to hear (you can verify this by using another app that produces sound)
- Skyfire is muted. Make sure Skyfire is not muted within the app (Menu –> Actions -> Mute Audio).
- The media is muted. Make sure the media you're trying to play isn't muted or the volume turned down. On a touchscreen phone, click/drag/hover over the controls to see if the volume is low or muted. It can be a little tricky with the Flash interaction. On WinMo touchscreen , enable "show drag controls" and select the pointer instead of the default hand, click and drag to kind of simulate hovering (drag until you're over the thing you want to hover on).
If you still experience audio issues post and let us know. Include the URL for the website involved.

Singnet, what is happening exactly when you try a site with sound? Are you getting a quick burst of sound, then nothing?
Friendbear, you are hearing a bit of sound when you first visit a site with sound, then nothing; is that correct?

after 10 minutes a burst of sound then nothing. asked tmobile techhies today who said they've had a few calls about skyfire this week, obviously cos skyfire ask us to check about udp blocking with our isps first. hope it gets fixed. starting to understand how awful it must be to be deaf!

Thanks, Friendbear. Did the T-mobile techs mention what problems people were reporting? Are other Skyfire users seeing the same problem as you are? I'd like to get some additional perspectives on the problem.
That said, I talked today with my Skyfire colleagues and they tell me they are aware of problems in the UK and are working to address them. It is possible that the problems you are seeing are part and parcel with those.

Hi friendbear,
I was just watching a YouTube video and I saw it act almost exactly as situation you were talking about: no sound but for a short burst a few minutes in. But I hit the mute button (number 0 on the phone) and the sound came up. But the icon appeared to show it as muted.
Does hitting 0 (for mute) have any effect for you?

I've been having an issue with the sound in Skyfire. The sound has a strange REVERBERATION making it incomprehensible. It's like those NFL officials when they do their announcement on the field!!??
It's the same with all sites as far as I can tell.
I'm sure that it's not a network issue because another app that streams video using UDP for the sound doesn't have this problem.
It appears to be the same with all the servers as well:

Here's my experience of the UDP issue:
Some carriers deliberately block UDP and throttle the internet connection in one SIM package but does the opposite in another package that they offer.
Previously, I was on a SIM package that had calls sms and mms but in the data UDP was blocked.
I finally learned that they offer another SIM package for data only with no calls, sms and mms but it does fully support UDP and is faster.
Of course they do this to force you to get two SIM's.

Interesting. This must depend on the part of the world. In the US the carriers generally try to lock users into a service contract with a cheap phone as incentive. American consumers generally get a new phone and a new service plan at the same time, as I understand it.

An xv6900 user who was seeing the error "The APN does not provide full internet connectivity" found a way to fix it that works for him.
QUOTE
When I start my data connection (Verizon's auto-connect cellular #777) with any other application (including other browsers; Internet Explorer, Opera, Outlook, etc..) other than Skyfire, the error appears when I try to use Skyfire for anything with audio. Alternatively, when the data connection is started using Skyfire, the sound returns without errors. Also, setting Skyfire as the default browser did not resolve the issue if the data connection was again, started with any different application.
I don't know if this will help anyone else, but I thought I'd pass it along. (APY-166675)

i now realize that my reverbe problem is due to slow connection speed. When the connection speed is fine, there's no problem. No issue with Skyfire.

When sound works with one connection method but not another, the problem is often related to the carrier blocking/not supporting UDP.

guys, when you start Skyfire do you see the "Speaker" icon at the bottom right-hand corner? That's the indicator whether you have UDP or not.
If there's no speaker icon, that means your carrier blocks/not support UDP.

Yes, it sounds that the problem is with T-Mobile UK network since it works fine over wi.fi. I don't think Skyfire "cares" whether it's wi.fi or cellular.
By the way, Coreplayer and similar apps don't use UDP, only TCP becaus they don't really stream the video.

I refer to my above post where another user on t-mobile UK has no problems whatsoever with skyfire (i obviously cannot clarify what he says) It seems strange that one can use the same ISP and others can't.
I have installed on the phone all the updates and the BSB tweaks application. I wonder if I should start again and work back!
