Full Version: Http Authentication

Dear all,
It is not possible to log in when a website uses HTTP Authentication. Because the server sends a header information to the client (HTTP 401).

Is there any way to log into those websites?

Thanks?

Not that I'm aware of. This is a known issue that they're working on. It would be possible for them to handle it, but they haven't implemented that yet.

You used to be able to put the username and password in the URL, but I believe that's not supported (due to security reasons) in most browsers these days.

BTW: This is another fairly frequently requested change that may not be too difficult to implement and would allow people to access things that could be very useful to get to via mobile.

I'd like to say that HTTP Auth stuff is kind of "so 1990's" but it's still a viable quick and easy security setup that many people use. I believe someone said it was used on their company's security cams. Being able to access those while mobile would be pretty nice.

Again, hopefully easy to implement and possibly a heavy functionality boost for Skyfire.

I'd like to bring this topic of HTTP Authentication up again ... I found a handful of threads about it, and I understand it is not currently supported. But it really needs to be. AND if I can add to the requirements list: please, please, please build in a "Remember Username/Password" checkbox. I have a few "admin" web sites that I visit daily, if not hourly, that use Basic authentication. And I have to use IE on my phone b/c it's the only mobile browser that bothered implementing "Remember Username/Password". Opera has a "Remember Username" but not the password -- how non-useful is that! smile.gif

Anyway, I am brand new to Skyfire (like 20 minutes ago), and it is by far the best mobile browser I have tried since I bought my Samsung Omnia 3 weeks ago. But for me, I need HTTP Authentication working (with the remember checkbox). Heck, I'll write the code myself...skyfire isn't open source is it? wink.gif

Great product ... great browsability ... great job skyfire development person/team.

Just another web hacker,
Aaron

Hi Aaron...

We are aware that HTTP auth is high on the list.
Have not gotten around to it, but we definitely have not forgotten about it!

Robert.

Very pitty to see a year later it's still 'high on the list' and not resolved
otherwise great product .. but not having basic http auth really is inconvenient
