When Skyfire is installed it attempts to determine your geographic location. We have noticed that with some Internet service providers Skyfire receives incorrect information about the user's location. As a result, UK users are sometimes directed to the US datacenter. When such a user browses to a UK site, such as the BBC, the Webserver sees the user as coming from the US, rather than the UK, and blocks access.

Some users have found they can overcome this by uninstalling Skyfire, connecting with a different service provider (such as a WiFi hot spot), then installing Skyfire once more.

Hi Dave,

I know that Skyfire has announced they plan no further development on version 1.5 but if I may suggest that skyfire at least address this particular issue if not by releasing another version then at least come up with a fix that works the majority of the time.

The reason I suggest this issue is that if every time a UK user winds up with a US IP address for a file server, the same problem that occurred before with too many users from unsupported countries will wind up happening again. Although the UK is a supported country, if many UK users are directed to the US data center then the US file servers will wind up getting hammered and performance will decrease in the US.

If there's some way to get this corrected so that US users point to the us data center and UK users point to the uk data center, that will more evenly distribute users and will, hopefully, prevent peformance degradation again. I'm sure it will be some time before version 2.0 comes out for WM, if it ever comes out for WM.

personally, this doesn't really matter to me as I'll be switching to an android phone as soon as the phone I want becomes available (EVO 4G from Sprint). Apparently, it's a hot phone because it's never in stock every time I try to go buy one.

To be honest, this has been a big problem for a long time now, and they do not seem to want to look into fixing it, just giving a standard response as OmahaDave did in this thread. The fix he suggests doesnt work for me or most other people from what i have been reading on these forums.
Cant see how it can be a mobile network issue, as even when i download & setup & connect via wifi i get the same issue.

Cant imagine it will be fixed anytime soon, im on Symbian and 1.5 is no longer being developed, but you would think they would at least fix the bugs
